Understanding the ‘why’ and the ‘what’
I’ve been coaching futsal for around 14 years, and the most useful thing it’s taught me is that the same instructions often land differently for different people. Some players need to hear it, others need to see it, some players want the detail, and some need one simple thing to focus on.
If I explain things the same way every time, I can reach some players but not others. I always try to understand, “how can I explain this better?” And this applies every day at work.
Money and retirement come with their own jargon, so the best thing I can do is make things easy to understand. Before I get into the details, I work out how each person likes to understand things. For example, Retirement is a big topic, and nobody should feel rushed through it.
Some people want the full picture, others want it simple. My job is to work at their pace. The best conversation I can have is one where clients leave understanding the why, not just the what.
If you know someone who wants to understand their financial situation in simple terms, I’d love help.
